Distinguished and Famous people from Victorian Central Highlands
๐๏ธ John Curtin
John Curtin was born in Creswick in 1885 and spent part of his childhood there before his family moved elsewhere in Victoria. His working life included union organising and newspaper editing, with his political career later centred on Western Australia. Prime minister from 1941 until his death in 1945, he led Australia through much of the Pacific War and strengthened its wartime partnership with the United States. His Creswick beginnings form an early chapter of a career that crossed from Victorian working life to Western Australian politics and national leadership.
๐จ David Bromley
Artist David Bromley has a documented working connection with Daylesford, where his gallery presents paintings, sculpture and ceramics. The local studio's hand-thrown and painted ceramics sit alongside imagery including his familiar butterflies. The gallery and studio give his work a practical, continuing presence in the town. It adds a contemporary creative strand to a region often introduced through gold-rush history and older public figures.
